Betsy Wilson
One of the greatest advocates for girls
sports in Lehigh Valley history. Wilson just completed
her 28th season as the District 11 softball chairman.
She has been an instrumental in the promotion
and development of the sport throughout the district
and state. Under her direction, the District 11 softball
tournament has become one of the premier spring events
in the Lehigh Valley scholastic sports, drawing hundreds
of people each year to Patriots Park.
Wilson played college softball as West
Chester State Teachers College and coached at both Emmaus
High School and Moravian Academy.
She has served as the Colonial League
umpires assignor for many years and has been just as
involved in the emergence of both girls field hockey
and basketball over the past three decades as an official,
assignor, rules interreter and PIAA committee member.
Earlier this year, Wilson was inducted
into the Lehigh Valley Basketball Hall of Fame.
