Althoug he covered league, district, and
state playoff games as a part-timer in 1981 and 82,
Groller officially took over the softball beat as a
full-time writer at The Morning call in 1983 and recently
completed his 25th season of writing about the local
high school and collegiate softball scene. In that time,
he has written approximately 1,500 stories on the sport.
Groller was the Call's lead writer on
the 1984 ISC World Men's Fastpitch League in 1987. He
won community service awards from the Allentown Patriots
and East Penn Umpires Association in 1993 and was named
the Colonial League's media person of the year, in part
for his softball coverage, in 1996 and 2004.
He also volunteered as Pates Park as a
P.A. announcer for 10 years. He still does between inning
trivia contests, did TV commentary for both local cable
companies and was aTV analyst for PCN at the 2002, 2004,
and 2005 state championships.

charity events with his All-Groller girls team. He also
has served on the Lehigh Valley Softball Hall of Fame
Committee since its inception in 2001.
But, he's most proud of his efforts in
expanding the coverage of girls softball in the newspaper
to 50-plus games a year, a weekly column, Top 10 polls,
players of the week selections, and closes each season
with his annual pitcher, player, coach and rookie of
the year awards and Morning Call All-Ara team.
